Coming Home

It is an interesting thing, seeing people you haven't seen in a while, especially when you're home from college. There is a certain amount of pressure to sound smarter than when you left and to delve into more mature conversational topics. It's just weird. Before I left, I was talking about the true nature of Speidi's relationship, now I'm talking about travel visas and lines of study? What's happening?
And what's weirder is the people that you wind up talking with. Adults start seeing you as one of them and your friends and acquaintances are aging alongside you. People you never really talked to are now carrying on full conversations! Let's take this guy "A" for example, "A" has never really liked me, has ignored me and has rolled his eyes at me whenever I talked, no matter what I was saying. Today, I wave "hello" and he comes over and has a lengthy conversation with my best friend and me about school. The longest thing I have EVER done with this kid is play a game of chess, five years ago, silently. Oh well, things are always changing. Might as well move on.

Boxing Day

I hope everyone had an excellent holiday, there's nothing like spending the holidays with family to make you miss loneliness. I, of course, spent Christmas Day keeping my grandmother away from my mother while she cooked and was therefore the subject of toooo much attention. "Why haven't you lost weight?". La-di-da. Can't wait till next year.

On the acting front, I haven't really done anything in the last couple of weeks but I have enrolled in an Intro to Performing class for next semester. I finally feel like I'm doing something to make my dreams come true. I know I can make it. It sounds cliche even to me, I'm sure every other actor has said this in their lifetime, but I know, in the very core of my being, that I can be great. I can be the one who changes the reality of people like me. People with disabilities. I recently saw Avatar by James Cameron and realised something: that technology did not exist before he created it. He created his own miracle and now it is time I create my own.

Hello Everyone

This is officially my first post! My name is Imani and this is my movie, film, whatever I feel like it blog. I have been trying to break into the acting business for about a year now, but my cerebral palsy makes it difficult to even get looked at. This blog will be my journal as I navigate my way through the film industry and it will also chronicle my life as someone with a disibility in america. My goal in pursuing an acting career is to change the stereotypes hollywood has set for disabled people. stereotypes that directly affect me. I will also post links to movies I like and my opinions on some entertainment news.

I hope you like it...
